Understanding RELM Photography

August 10, 2018

Who is the photographer?

Hi I'm Rhondell, the woman behind the camera!

What does RELM stand for?

Rhondell Elisabeth Lois Morris - That was my name... until I got married in February 2017 to my amazing husband!

What kind of photography do you do?

Well... I love all things photography however I am a skilled wedding, portrait and fashion photographer.

How did you get into photography?

By accident actually... When I left school to go to college in 2007 I had no idea what I wanted to do, but I had a curiosity about how music videos are made so ended up doing a media course. Within this course there was TV, film, radio and of course photography! I excelled more than ever academically than I ever did in school by gaining a Distinction* (Highest in my class) and also won the Student of the Year Award!

How about Wedding photography... surely you didn't learn that in college?

No actually my Uncle asked me to do a wedding for a friend at his church. I was scared but did it anyway and they were so happy with the photos, then more people asked me to do weddings.

So you went into the wedding industry without any training?

Yes. I made the decision not to go university after college and work instead. Over the past 10 years I have been getting all my equipment and throwing myself into situations I had no experience in so that I could gain experience. Anything I didn't know I learnt through either trial and error or YouTube!

So would ever do family, corporate or event photography?

I've actually done all of the above. I've worked in 2 different studios, which specialised in family and baby photography... I've done corporate events, portraits and product photography...Lots of birthday parties.

It got to a certain point where I just doing all these things for the money and I wasn't enjoying what I was doing and I had to ask myself, where has my passion gone?

I no longer do any of these because to be honest I don't enjoy it and I'm not a money-motivated person. If I do things I don't enjoy it will eventually show in my work and then it actually becomes work for me.

What do you like most about photography?

OH! There's a good question!

I love taking the photos and looking at the images during a session but then I get so excited with what I've taken because it means editing is coming soon lol. As soon as a photo shoot or wedding is finished, no matter how tired I am I cannot wait to get home and start editing! It's seriously the most enjoyable section for me.

When editing is completed and I’m about the send my online gallery I feel so happy and excited to share with my clients!

How would you describe your photography style?

Everyone loves a good pose, however I prefer more of a documentary style. Pictures that tell a story and make you feel an emotion instead of just a staged image. I also like the colours to be captivating and vibrant or deeply contrasted black & white.

What makes you different from other wedding photographers?

I have recently been a bride and have such a deeper appreciation for weddings than I ever had before. All the details that you put into your special day that can never be re-created are so important!

I try my very best to help my clients with any reliable vendors, tips and tricks to save money, help with a realistic timeline for their day and most of all meet them where they are at. I know first hand how expensive a wedding can be and so I make myself reasonably flexible so that my clients can still get professional high stand photographs even if they re on a budget. I have very reasonable packages but it may still be out your price range... so always ask me if you can accommodate you because if you don’t ask you don't get!

What would you say is your wedding photography signature?

I love depth of field and with my couples I always include a photo that highlights the engagement ring or wedding rings like below:

What are your plans for RELM Photography?

I want to be recognised as a wedding photographer first and then a portrait photographer. I plan to expand RELM Photography by having a team of photographers who will work for and beside me with me still being the sole editor for the company. Running your own photography business is so much hard work and I know by the time I'm ready to start a family I will need to have a team in order to keep the vision of  my company alive.

If you have any questions or interest in joining RELM Photography please feel free to leave a message below or send an email to rhondell@relmphotography.co.uk and I'll be more than happy to chat!
